Automatic Car on Rent in Delhi: Skip the Clutch, Keep the Freedom
Anyone who has driven through ITO at 6 PM, crawled along the Outer Ring Road, or inched past Ashram Chowk knows what Delhi traffic does to your left leg. In a manual car you press and release the clutch hundreds of times in a single commute. In an automatic, you just use the brake and the accelerator.
That is why more people now ask for an automatic car on rent in Delhi. At Veekay Cabs, more than half of our self-drive fleet is automatic: 59 of our 104 cars as of November 2026. Our automatic self-drive cars range from city hatchbacks like the Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza to SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra Scorpio N, and premium cars like the Toyota Fortuner and Camry. Prices start at ₹109 per hour.
Why an Automatic Car Self Drive Makes Sense in Delhi
An automatic car self-drive booking is not just about comfort. In a city like Delhi, it changes how the whole trip feels.
- Less tiring in traffic. No clutch means no constant gear changes in stop-and-go traffic. You arrive at your meeting or your relative's house fresh, not drained.
- Easier for occasional drivers. If you don't drive every day, an automatic is far easier to get used to. There is no risk of stalling at a signal or rolling back on a flyover ramp.
- Simpler on flyovers and slopes. Many modern automatics come with hill-hold, and even without it an automatic creeps forward instead of stalling, so the car is less likely to roll back when you start on an incline, such as parking ramps in malls.
- Smoother for passengers. Gear changes are smoother, which elderly family members and children in the back notice on long drives.
- Good for returning drivers. If you learned on a manual but haven't driven in years, an automatic lets you get back behind the wheel with confidence.
- Better on long highway drives. On expressways to Jaipur, Agra or Dehradun, an automatic reduces fatigue over hours of driving, especially at toll plazas and in town traffic at the other end.

Automatic vs Manual: How Much More Does It Cost?
Many customers assume an automatic is much more expensive. For most cars, the difference is small, especially once you compare it with the comfort you get in Delhi traffic.
| Car | Manual (per hour) | Automatic (per hour) | Extra for 24 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maruti Baleno | ₹92 | ₹109 | about ₹408 |
| Toyota Glanza | ₹96 | ₹113 | about ₹408 |
| Hyundai Creta | ₹167 | ₹209 | about ₹1,008 |
| Mahindra Scorpio N | ₹209 | ₹250 | about ₹984 |
| Toyota Fortuner | ₹459 | ₹542 | about ₹1,992 |
For a hatchback, an automatic costs roughly ₹400 more for a full day. If you plan to spend most of the day in city traffic, most customers find that is money well spent. For a mostly highway trip where you won't change gears often, a manual can save a little.
The Toyota Taisor is the same price in both versions (₹134 per hour), so if you like a compact SUV, the automatic costs you nothing extra.
Not All Automatics Are the Same
You don't need to be a car expert to rent an automatic, but knowing the main types helps you choose.
| Type | How it feels | Usually found in |
|---|---|---|
| AMT (automated manual) | Simple and fuel-efficient. You may feel a small pause during gear changes. | Budget hatchbacks |
| Torque converter | Very smooth and strong. A good fit for SUVs and highway driving. | Larger SUVs and premium cars |
| CVT / IVT | Seamless, with no gear changes felt at all. Very relaxed in traffic. | Mid-size SUVs and sedans |
| Hybrid (e-CVT) | Uses an electric motor at low speed, so it is very quiet and efficient in city traffic. | Some premium MPVs and sedans |
All four types are driven the same way from the driver's seat. Only the smoothness and fuel use differ. If you'd like a particular car with a particular gearbox, ask our team when you book.
First Time in an Automatic? A Quick Guide
If you have only ever driven a manual, here is everything you need to know before your first trip.
The gear lever
- P (Park): use when the car is stopped and switched off. You can only start the engine in P (or N).
- R (Reverse): for reversing. Press the brake before shifting into it.
- N (Neutral): only for short stops, for example in a car wash. Don't coast in N.
- D (Drive): for normal driving, forward. The car changes gears by itself.
The golden rules
- Use only your right foot. Your right foot controls both the brake and the accelerator. Keep your left foot flat on the floor, away from the pedals.
- Always press the brake before you shift. Move from P to D or R only with your foot firmly on the brake.
- Expect the car to creep. In D, the car moves forward slowly even without pressing the accelerator. This is normal and makes slow traffic easier.
- Brake fully at signals. You don't need to shift to N at a red light. Just hold the brake in D.
- Park properly. Stop the car, shift to P, apply the handbrake, then switch off the engine.
Most first-time automatic drivers feel comfortable within 10 to 15 minutes. If you're unsure, ask our team at pickup to walk you through the controls of your car before you drive off.

| Travelling with elderly parents | Innova Hycross or Invicto | Easy entry, smooth and quiet ride |
